Colours Caribbean—formerly Colours Cayman—is a registered non-profit organisation (NPO) founded in 2018 by Billie “Bee” Bryan, a transgender and queer woman-of-colour (QWOC) and locally operated in the Cayman Islands, a British Overseas Territory in the Caribbean.
Our Pillars
Our efforts are supported and strengthened by three pillars:
Encouraging Dialogue
We get people talking about the issues surrounding lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex and asexual (LGBTQIA+) people.
Providing Education
We teach others how to be supportive and understanding of everyone’s gender identity, sexual orientation and intimate relationships.
Promoting Visibility
We aren’t afraid to show our true selves to the world and strive to inspire the same confidence in others.
Campaigns, Events & Programming
Colours Caribbean Pledge
We foster a safe and comfortable social environment for the LGBTQIA+ Community of the Cayman Islands, Caribbean and Latin America through our Colours Caribbean Pledge: a grassroots effort to develop a network of local businesses, organisations, professionals and public venues intolerant of discrimination and harassment. And that effort continues to this day.
Participants sporting the Colours Caribbean decal have pledged “never to tolerate harassment, discrimination nor misconduct towards or deny employment, provision of service nor sale of goods to any persons at our establishment on the basis of their sexual orientation or gender identity.”
Educational Workshops
Our ongoing series of workshops are designed to educate teens, adolescents, teachers, parents and guardians on the sensitive subjects of gender identity, sexual orientation and mental health.
Sociopolitical Campaigns
We promote the inclusion and equality of LGBTQIA+ persons by collaborating with like-minded political activists and organisations, domestically and internationally, and advocating for progressive change through our ongoing sociopolitical campaigns and by working directly with government organisations.
Podcasts & Video Series
We highlight the experiences of LGBTQIA+ people and increase awareness of the challenges they face by promoting visibility in our podcasts and growing series of online videos.
